Even though the luminosity of this group of galaxies is distributed over a very large area, at magnitude 3.4 when at it’s apex on a dark night the Andromeda Galaxy is visible to the naked eye even in less than favorable viewing conditions. M31, M32 & M110 are perhaps best viewed in binoculars, as they are larger than the field of view in many telescope eyepieces.
